Ok, you've downloaded the palette (I'm assuming its already a .pal
file, right?) If its not, I'll show you how to turn an image into a
palette as well at the end.
Anyways, I'm going to explain using psp v. 6, although if you have 7,
I think the color menu is pretty much the same.
You should have the psp folder set up like this on your computer - if
not, at any rate find it on your computer, and put the palette in the
palettes folder inside of hte psp folder. Paint Shop Pro 6\Palettes
or similar.
Next, make sure the image you are using, is saved as a .GIF file.
JPG files tend to make the colors blur a bit and look extremely fuzzy
(and annoying!) Then go to Color Decrease Color Depth and click on
256 (8 bit) colors.
Now, you either have your doll complete, or you still have yet to
draw/edit it. You can apply the palette any time you wish, just as
long as you apply it sometime before putting it into palace. So, you
have your image, whatever it may be, saved already as a gif and at
256 colors.
Now, go to Colors in the menu bar, click on Load Palette. A open
dialog box will open up, and assuming you correctly put in the
palette into the right folder, it should show up as whatever you
named it. Select the palace palette, then make SURE you click on
error diffusion dithering radio button at the bottom of the box, then
click open. (the error diffusion dithering is so that when the
program applies the palette, it dithers different colors together to
get a similar shade, instead of just replacing all of it with one
solid color).
And, then the palace palette will have been applied.
How to make a custom palette:
Open up any image you'd like. Then, go to Colors and click on Save
Palette. A dialog box will open up and ask you to name your new
palette. enter in a name and click ok. Now, you can try applying
your new palette to pictures and see what happens.
Remember, PSP (and any other programs for that matter) won't bite
you. Experiment, try clicking different things, even if you don't
know what they do (just make sure to save your image before you go
exploring!!) Also, skim over the help files, you might learn
something new from them too :)~~
