PSP Tips & Tricks

Ok! This little tutorial is for people using Transparency in PSP. A lot of people create and/or "make" their dolls using drag and drop sites. If you use the drag and drop sites, you have to "print screen" the complete doll and put it in your own paint program. Then what? You want to put it up on your web page, right?
Well, they normally look like this (only they are a complete doll of course!) with white, black, red, green, or whatever color background you like to use in your painting program. Here you can see I've used white, although I have found out a nice pukey-looking green color works the absolute best.

Now, this is for Paint Shop Pro mind you, and works well with both versions 6 and 7. If your using another painting program, try searching Yahoo! for tutorials on the web that go along with whatever painting program you are using. Unfortunetly to all those MS Paint users out there, you cannot set a transparency with it.

First of all have your doll picture open (and be sure to save them as a .gif file! If you save them as a .jpg file, the colors sort of distort and look generally bad. And be sure to save often too, you never know when the infamous 'blue screen' will pop out at you.
Hold down the ctrl key on your keyboard and click the RIGHT mouse button on the white background of the picture (or simply click the button in PSP and right click on the white background).
Your background color in the should look like this.
Then, in the menu above, go to Colors, and click on Set Palette Transparency. An alert type box will pop up, and you should click on the middle choice which says "Set the transparency value to the current background color".
If the option is greyed out and will not let you select it, try this: Just save your file as a .GIF file, and totally close the picture. Then re-open it, and try to set the transparency again. Works, right? Just make sure you save your file as a .GIF file, NOT a .jpg file.
Now to make sure that your transparency is right, go to Colors in the menu again, and click on View Palette Transparency. A little checkerboard background should show up, which shows that you have successfully made the background transparent. It will look like this (or have larger or smaller boxes too):

Now, you can put it on your web page without the background color. Try experimenting with different colored backgrounds, and try to experiment with all the other functions of PSP. Or try searching for tutorials on using PSP by itself on the internet, there are many around ^_^
This is what it will look like when you put it on your web page:
